The event has been named in honour of the first barrister of Chinese descent to be admitted to the NSW Bar and will have pride of place as an annual fixture in the AALA's calendar of activities in NSW.

The event will take the form of a panel presentation and a Q&A session with audience members, followed by drinks and networking We are delighted that for the first address, the AALA has secured the following distinguished guests as panellists:

  • The Honourable Justice Jagot, Judge of the Federal Court of Australia;

  • Dr Tim Soutphommasane, Race Discrimination Commissioner of the Australian Human Rights Commission;

  • Mr Tony McAvoy SC, Barrister and first indigenous Senior Counsel appointed in Australia; and

  • Ms Sam Mostyn, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors of Diversity Council Australia and a non-executive director on the boards of various companies and non-profit organisations.

The address aims to provide a forum in which to explore the challenges in promoting Asian cultural diversity within the legal profession and engaging with corporate Australia and the general community in addressing cultural diversity issues in its broader socio-economic context.
