The AALA is very excited to launch its Cultural Diversity Analysis. Join the Chair of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Chin Tan, and other esteemed guests as we take this significant first step on our research into cultural diversity in the legal profession. Until now, the existence of a "bamboo ceiling" in the legal profession has only been supported by anecdotal evidence.

The AALA Cultural Diversity Analysis is the first research project of its kind in Australia which specifically addresses the gap in statistics on the level Asian Australian representation in the senior ranks of the legal profession - from solicitors, to barristers and the judiciary. The project aligns with AALA’s objectives of promoting awareness about the bamboo ceiling, along with wider issues of cultural diversity, and identifying the extent to which this ceiling exists in the legal profession. The data will be used as a baseline to inform longer-term progress of cultural diversity in the legal profession.
