Reflections from the bench
The Asian Australian Lawyers Association (AALA) and Muslim Legal Network (MLN) are proud to present an evening with Her Honour Magistrate Urfa Masood, Victoria's first female Muslim Magistrate, at 6.00pm on 1 March 2017, at Baker & McKenzie, Level 19, 181 William Street, Melbourne.
Join us as we celebrate Her Honour's first year on the bench, and as she shares her experiences and reflections on her journey and appointment to the Court.
The evening is free for AALA and MLN members, however registrations are essential. Non-members can purchase their tickets through the AALA website.
The AALA and MLN are committed to advancing cultural diversity in the legal profession. This is an excellent opportunity to meet, network and engage in this important issue with friends and colleagues.

Her Honour Magistrate Urfa Masood
Her Honour Magistrate Urfa Masood is the first Muslim woman appointed to a Victorian Court, having been appointed to the Magistrates' Court of Victoria on 11 May 2016, and is of Sri Lankan background.
Her Honour began practising as a criminal law solicitor in 2003 at the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS).
During this time, Her Honour handled matters in all the metropolitan Magistrates Courts and the County Court, as well as all matters arising for VALS at Moe. This included conducting pleas, bail applications, committal mentions and County Court appeals.
In November 2004, Her Honour was admitted to the Victorian Bar, where she conducted contested hearings and committals. Her Honour also continued her criminal law practice during this time.
Her Honour has practiced in the Children’s Court jurisdiction and in family law. Her Honour has conducted many interim and final hearings at the Children’s Court, as well as the Federal Circuit Court of Australia and the Family Court.
Since June 2012, Her Honour has been an adjunct lecturer at the College of Law, where Her Honour teaches advocacy.
