Coronavirus and you: The Asian-Australian law students’ guide to surviving the COVID-19 pandemic

The AALA invites you to attend a panel discussion exploring the impact of COVID-19 on culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), including international, law students.

COVID-19 has dramatically altered most aspects of students’ lives, particularly those from CALD backgrounds, including in relation to:

• racial discrimination and vilification;
• academic performance; and
• finance and employment.

In order to help students navigate the ongoing uncertainty which has arisen in the ‘new normal’, the AALA has assembled an experienced panel that knows what it’s like on the ground to act as a ‘survival guide’ of sorts; i.e. to:

• identify and discuss issues currently being faced by law students; and
• provide advice and suggestions.

The panel comprises:

• Khayshie Tilak Ramesh, legal adviser, director and Multicultural Youth Commissioner of Victoria;
• Margaret Cai, law student and president of the Australian Law Students’ Association;
• Tienyi Long, legal and governance officer and winner of the 2019 William Ah Ket Scholarship; and
• Zara Ismail, international student, law graduate and PLT trainee.

There will be a 1 hour panel discussion, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A.
