We are pleased to invite you to attend a CPD seminar, "Playing the Victim" presented by psychologist Peter Hanley via Zoom on Wednesday 31 March 2021.
Description:
In the context of cultural diversity, "victim blaming" and notions of "playing the race card" are often used to undercut the legitimacy of claims of racial discrimination. But what should you do when a client appears to be exaggerating their victimhood? Using case illustrations from forensic psychology and relationship counselling, psychologist Peter Hanley will explore the psychological concept of “playing the victim”. He will discuss problematic and redeemable aspects of the concept, with the broad aim of improving our ability to respond appropriately to victims.
About the Presenter:
Peter Hanley is a psychologist working in private practice at Central Melbourne Psychology, which specialises in forensic psychological treatment and assessment. He regularly provides expert reports for court. Most of his clients have been charged with criminal offences. He is experienced in assessing and treating a variety of mental disorders, substance use disorders, paraphilias and personality disorders. He also provides relationship counselling, and the development of healthy relationships is a focus of his practice.
