AALA, in conjunction with Baker McKenzie, has gathered a unique panel of speakers, most of whom share one unique characteristic - they have all qualified or studied in another legal jurisdiction before arriving in Australia and achieving their professional and career goals in the law. This series event is designed to help practitioners who were raised in a different countries and jurisdictions and who may have qualified as a lawyer in another country to understand the advantages and challenges that come with having dual qualifications, and how employers may be able to benefit from their experiences.

The event will be moderated by Kripi Bhatt, Legal Counsel at BGIS, who is also qualified in India. The panel includes a diverse and accomplished set of practitioners, being:

  • Gillian Woon, Special Counsel, Baker McKenzie, also qualfiied in Singapore
  • Mahrukh Batliwalla, former Solicitor and Advocate and past Vice President, Women Lawyers’ Association of NSW, also qualified in India
