The NSW Branch of the AALA is pleased to host the President of the NSW Law Society, Ms Elizabeth Espinosa, and National AALA Vice-President, Molina Asthana, at Baker McKenzie in Sydney, for an event commemorating the commencement of the law term in 2019.
Ms Espinosa will be giving a keynote address on diversity in the legal profession, how the profession has changed in its approach to diversity and inclusion, intersectional issues with gender, and reflections on going forward and how practitioners at all levels can be "champions of change. Ms Espinosa is a General Counsel with many years' experience in Local Government, and has been a councillor of the NSW Law Society for 6 years prior to her election as President in January 2019. She brings a wealth of experience to the role as President and insights into how diversity and inclusion has advanced in NSW in the time she has been involved at the peak body for solicitors in NSW.
Ms Asthana is the National AALA Vice-President, and is also a councillor of the Law Institute of Victoria. She is also the President of the Victorian Chapter of the International Law Association and the Deputy Chair of the International Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria. She received the Victorian Multicultural Award for Excellence - Service Delivery for Community Services 2014. She also received the Young Executive of the Year Award Female and the Person of the Year Award which was given to her by Hon. John Howard at the Indian Executive Awards 2013. Molina has profiled in the Top 50 of the Indian community in Melbourne in 2012 and 2013.
